| IMC BioEd is our latest service offering created to meet the growing demand for teaching research scientists how to combine computational skills with biology through learning to use and understand bioinformatics tools for analyzing, integrating, and making sense of text-based, sequence, and structural data. These services provide our clients with new insight into computational biology that helps with current and future research as best described in the following passage written by BioEd instructor, Steve Pechous, PhD:
“When teaching we often see, for example, how people will ‘understand’ the Protein, Gene, or PubMed databases, but lack an appreciation of the wealth of critical data and annotations often found within each entry. There are subtle ways to filter and collate data that are almost always unknown to those outside of NCBI, and most annotation fields and links to other data are poorly understood at best. In short, only a minority of ‘power users’ realize the hidden potential found in the results of their data mining... to streamline and hone a discovery pipeline.”
IMC BioEd offers the following:
- Custom Courses to meet the specific needs of your organization. For example: Integrating PubMed, Entrez Gene, and PubChem with your proprietary data to identify a correlation between smoking cessation and schizophrenia.
- Consulting services that combine IT and bioinformatics expertise including discovery research education, integration support for internal applications, and instructional support for your applications clientele.
All services are provided by molecular biologists and biochemists with PhDs, who bring with them many years of experience teaching and presenting these services as a contractor with the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)-home of GenBank®, PubMed®, PubChem and dbSNP.
