Matthew Skidmore, Head of Compliance UK at IMC, appointed as an advisor to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
We’re pleased to announce that Matthew Skidmore, Head of Compliance UK at IMC, has been appointed as an advisor to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the agency tasked with regulating and supervising EU financial markets.
As a member of ESMA’s Secondary Markets Working Group, Matthew will be one of a select few senior experts consulted for advice on topics that include assessing the impacts of developments in market structure, transparency, and efficiency of trading, as well as rulebook harmonisation across EU Member States. Throughout his three-year term, Matthew will also provide his expertise in helping to shape regulatory frameworks, market integrity, and drafting of technical standards.
Supporting efficient, fair, and transparent markets
This appointment marks the first time an IMC colleague has supported ESMA in a direct capacity. And it aligns with our longstanding efforts to support efficient, fair, and transparent markets in Europe and beyond. Guided by our core values, including acting with trust, integrity, and commitment to longevity, and powered by IMC’s 35 years of experience in global trading and market making, our colleagues shape more than just IMC’s success; they collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to support the wider financial ecosystem.
Matthew’s role at ESMA marks a fresh milestone in a 35-year tradition at IMC, and it begins an exciting new chapter of deeper collaboration with European policymakers and other financial stakeholders.
“Joining the ESMA Working Group is a real honour, and a meaningful opportunity to support ESMA’s mission and purpose,” says Matthew. “Like everyone at IMC, my ambition is to ensure European capital markets are as fair, transparent, and competitive as possible – so I’ll do everything in my power to help them thrive.”
