Joining a team that makes an impact

Having worked at larger companies, Cian was drawn to the opportunity to work as part of a smaller team at IMC, feeling like he could have a bigger impact day-to-day.

“IMC has big goals and targets, so it’s really exciting to be working towards them on a desk of analysts focused on diverse strategies,” Cian explains. “I would say there are rarely ever two days that are the same, and that's really exciting.”

Cian is part of the Equity Analysis team, which researches and predicts how equities and derivatives would react in certain scenarios. This is integral in helping the Trading team make decisions.

“The work is challenging and stimulating. I am responsible for monitoring and analysing a vast flow of corporate, industry, and regulatory news. I have become comfortable working with incomplete information,” he says. “I feel like I've learnt more in the last nine months here than I did in Ireland.”

Getting settled ‘Down Under’

To ensure efficiency and ease of transition, IMC’s relocation consultants began to work with Cian before he left Ireland and continued to show their support following his arrival in Australia.

“They were a massive help getting our visas. I don’t think we would’ve been able to get the first apartment we looked at without IMC’s relocation consultants. We were very lucky,” he says.

Moving to another country can be stressful and expensive, especially when finding accommodation. Relocating with IMC, Cian was provided with temporary housing while waiting for approval on a rental.

“When we arrived, we had somewhere straight away to put our things and unpack. That was nice. We didn’t have to live out of a suitcase.”

Cian was also paired with a local real estate agent, who guided him through the process of finding a rental. The agent was able to make suggestions and share snippets of local knowledge that may have otherwise been overlooked by someone new to the country.

“Subtle things like that were just really helpful,” Cian says.

Soaking up life in Sydney

Since making the move to Sydney, IMC’s culture has been a standout for Cian. “I get to learn a lot from people, but as well as that, everyone's so friendly. They're not just friends at work. I regularly meet some of the people on my team on the weekends; sometimes we’ll go for a pint or watch a match,” he shares.

In the office, there’s been plenty of support, too. Regular check-ins with the IMC team foster strong communication and allow Cian to share any concerns or seek support when he needs it most.

Sydney’s great weather and enviable natural beauty mean Cian has been able to explore all that the city has to offer during the weekends.
