Graduate Hardware Engineer Jack on his journey with IMC.
Education: BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.
Career so far: Joined IMC in 2019 as a Hardware Engineer following an internship.
Why hardware engineering?
I'm a natural problem-solver, so this role is a perfect fit for me. I realized this early on while taking a digital logic lab at college: it wasn't like regular software engineering; it was more like playing with LEGO bricks! It requires a different way of thinking.
What I love about Chicago
My ideal city has lots of good food, three to four months of winter, summers that aren't too hot, and ample outdoor activities. Chicago has it all – amazing food, all the seasons, and lots of beaches, lakes, and trails.
There's so much to explore here. One of my favorite weekend activities is to pick a neighborhood – like Lincoln Park or West Loop – and make a day of it. Eat some food, peruse the local shops, and just experience the character each neighborhood offers.
Why I chose IMC
I love the team, and I love the atmosphere in the office. Everyone's so fun to work with. The internship was very immersive, and it allowed me to see myself working here. You learn so much more about the role and the culture during those ten weeks than you ever could in a formal interview.
My experience as a Hardware Engineer
The work at IMC is exciting and always different. We tackle open problems that don't necessarily have a clear answer. It's so fulfilling to work on projects with such intricacy and detail.
Do you have what it takes to join IMC's tech team as an intern or graduate? If you're ambitious, thrive on challenge, and love problem-solving, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
