IMC is offering academic funding to exceptional doctoral candidates studying STEM subjects, such as computer science, applied math, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, and engineering.
If you have fewer than two years remaining in your PhD program and are not currently a fellow at a trading or tech company, the IMC Fellowship could be the next step in your research journey.
The IMC PhD Fellow will secure USD 50,000 of funding to go toward their education-related expenses, such as tuition, fees, and research. Shortlisted finalists will each receive USD 5,000 to use for their tuition, fees, and research. Please note that these awards must be administered through the candidate’s university and may therefore be subject to university-specific restrictions, as well as IMC’s internal compliance policies.
We will invite the shortlisted finalists and their PhD advisors to our Chicago office to present their research in person to our IMC Fellowship Review Committee. This will also give candidates the opportunity to meet with IMC quant researchers and learn more about our work and culture.
The IMC Fellow and first finalist have the option to participate in the IMC internship program, subject to the successful completion and satisfaction of standard recruitment and onboarding requirements. The IMC Fellow also gains access to our global network of quant experts and receives a travel stipend to attend one research conference of their choosing, such as NeurIPS or ICML. Alongside these opportunities, the Fellow will also be assigned an IMC mentor to help them launch a successful career in quant research for trading.

We appreciate the time and effort it takes to apply for a fellowship – so we’ve kept our process straightforward and streamlined.

As a leading research- and technology-driven trading firm, our global quant teams enable us to continually expand and diversify our trading strategies. From AI-powered trading capabilities to robust compute and low-latency infrastructure, our environment is built to enable innovation – helping our quant teams deliver real impact day after day.

Our high-performance quant researchers are pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve with AI and machine learning (ML) in trading. We excel at rapid systems development and feature generation – a crucial advantage in trading, where the speed of a solution offers an essential edge.

We tackle the most complex problems in our industry, encouraging our quant researchers to think harder, go deeper, and collectively problem solve. Our researchers work closely with colleagues from our global offices and thrive in our collaborative environment, which rewards bold ideas and creative thinking.
