ONLINE GLOBAL TRADING CHALLENGE

PROSPERITY

Prosperity is your chance to see how your skills stack up against other students across the globe while learning more about trading in a gamified environment that is competitive, collaborative, and fun.

WHAT IS PROSPERITY

Prosperity is IMC's annual trading challenge that allows university students to develop real-world trading skills on a virtual market. During a series of five algorithmic and manual trading rounds, teams race against the clock and thousands of other competitors, to craft a trading strategy that will maximize their PnL. The leaderboard updates after each round, but only after the final round will IMC Trading Talent of the year claim their title.

I got to live the full trading loop — from analysing historical price movements to searching for alpha, coding a strategy, backtesting, and deploying it live. I fell in love with this loop throughout the competition.

TITLE NEEDED

Designed by IMC researchers, traders, and developers, these challenges translate real-world trading problems into a gamified experience, giving curious, ambitious STEM students a hands-on way to apply their skills to a career in trading, without any prior experience in financial markets. Along the way, players deepen their grasp of market making, options trading, alpha research, and more, while sharpening the intuition, judgement, and creative thinking that great traders rely on. For each edition, the details of each challenge are only revealed when the round begins, requiring teams to think on their toes and be prepared for whatever comes their way.

Firstly, as an engineer, it helped me understand how technologies and algorithms are applied in financial markets — like how data is first acquired from an exchange and later transformed into profitable orders. Secondly, it was a great lesson in collaboration. Working with other people not only improves the team's performance, but brings the best of yourself.
